Sweet Psychic Dreams, Is Being Psychic a Gift or a Curse?

This weekend I saw Clint Eastward’s new movie HEREAFTER which explores the issues of near death experience, afterlife, and an intimate look into the life of someone who is psychic. The movie also touches on the difference between those who profess to be and those who truly have heightened awareness. What was of particular interest was the main character didn’t procure his abilities. They became apparent after he recovered from a serious illness. How relevant is this? Does plowing through personal trauma sharpen and intensify our perception. Are some of us just born more sensitive? And once discovered is being psychic a gift or a curse?
It has taken me years to speak and write candidly about my intuition for many of the same reasons the protagonist in HEREAFTER withdraws from the public eye and the alternative work he was doing. History reveals that people pay a price whenever they stray from the norm religiously, politically, and spiritually.
Last week I received an email from a Facebook fan requesting that I remove her from my friends list. She asked that I do this because we do not share the share the same religious beliefs, and of course without hesitation I deleted her. Did she read any of the articles I’ve written or was she instantly repelled because I use words like psychic? Her reaction is exactly why I pursued traditional training and certification in counseling and why it has taken decades to rectify working from both mentalities, intuitive and logical.
Without paranormal abilities I might not pick up on the little innuendos that tell me a child or adult has been sexually violated, or follow the inspirational voice that helped me get through to an autistic child more details which in turn altered how his teachers worked with him in the classroom.
Currently it seems that extra sensory perception is a hot media sensation. And though admittedly my two favorite television series are Medium and The Mentalist, psychic phenomena covers a much wider scope than solving crimes and convening with spirits. This blog is dedicated to dispelling fears about instincts and intuitions in an effort to support using both in daily life and decision making…
Shortly after I conceived I had a dream about a strawberry blond little boy with huge brown eyes. It was so vivid I awoke knowing I was having a son. One could argue this was a lucky guess the odds being 50/50. The amniocentesis a few months later was confirmation. I would have been thrilled either way but growtopia cheats tool seeing my son in this dream made the madden mobile cheats tool connection in utero all the more personal. In the final weeks of pregnancy I had another more urgent dream telling me my son was coming early. My dearest friend who is a certified midwife planned to be my birth coach. She had already purchased plane tickets to arrive a few days before my due date. I called her and told her the dream. “First time mothers always think their children are coming early. If it was anyone other than you I would ignore this. But I know you and your intuition. I will see what I can do to change my flight…”
My son was born ten days earlier than his due date. The fare increase was prohibitive for my friend to be at the delivery. The earliest reasonably priced flight was four days later which turned out to be the day I was discharged from the hospital. There were complications which prevented me from having a natural birth. I had an emergency C-section. Had my friend arrived on the original date her time would have been spent keeping me company in the hospital. As it turned out I really needed her support more after the birth, the first week at home. I have no family close by and my husband had to return to work. I was forewarned and fortunately my friend trusted this.
Some people are hesitant to develop their intuition because they are frightened they will tap into tragic events with no means to prevent or act on them. And some believe anything esoteric best be left under the jurisdiction of God. I live and operate somewhere in the middle. I will end this post with the Serenity Prayer.
God, grant us the…
Serenity to accept things we cannot change,
Courage to change the things we can, and the
Wisdom to know the difference
Patience for the things that take time
Appreciation for all that we have, and
Tolerance for those with different struggles
Freedom to live beyond the limitations of our past ways, the
Ability to feel your love for us and our love for each other and the
Strength to get up and try again even when we feel it is hopeless.
